Freedom Chair with Headrest and Gel Armrests, November 8, 2007 By Freedom Task Chair
I've been using one of these chairs in my home office since August 2005. I typically use it up to a few hours a day, but rarely longer.
Pros:
- Most top-of-the-line executive chairs don't fit me, as I'm 6/4 and 270 pounds. For example, the largest sized Herman Miller chair is too small. The Freedom Chair, after vertically adjusting the back and raising the headrest all the way, easily accommodates my height and bulk.
- The headrest is high enough for a tall person, which is not the case with most office chairs.
- The back rest curves inward at my lower-back, providing good support. My back never hurts after sitting for hours. (That doesn't mean the built-in lumbar support will fit YOUR back.)
- I find it comfortable, even though the seat is quite firm.
- When you lean back at a computer terminal, you're head is still facing forward, not upward as in most executive chairs, because the... Read more

After 8 years constant use, it's the best, February 23, 2009 By This review is from: Humanscale Freedom Task Chair - Headrest, Advanced Gel Arms, Graphite Frame (Office Product) I've used this chair, with the headrest (which it shouldn't be purchased without) constantly for almost 8 years now and it's absolutely the best. Plus Humanscale is a great company -one of the arms recently broke and the company paid to have it replaced, after 8 years!! I didn't have to beg or cojole, either.
The previous reviewer feels the cushioning should be thicker but the cushioning isn't as thick as some others for a very good reason -so your butt doesn't get locked in deep cushioning, which may seem more comfortable in the short run but is really detrimental after a few hours work in my experience (and as humanscale explains on its website). The best thing is the way the headrest works -if I'm in need of a few minutes break, leaning back brings the headrest into position and wow, is it nice. And it's perfectly balanced even all the way back. I've never had a problem personally with my butt sliding forward at all when leaning back, and I'm 6'5".
As for the... Read more

Over priced, consider alternatives., March 22, 2012 This review is from: Humanscale Freedom Task Chair - Headrest, Advanced Gel Arms, Graphite Frame (Office Product) My work uses these chairs. A co-worker's arm broke the weak ago. I came to this site because the my chair's arm just broke. I saw the price and was shocked! This chair costs over $1,000!
A chair, like clothing, must fit the body and thus it's a very personal item. If this chair fits, as another reviewer noted, then it's awesome and the price is justified. But for me, if I had to spend $1,000 then I'd strongly consider alternatives.
The two things I didn't like about this chair is the non-vented seat (ours is leather, not cloth) and the arms.
First, non-vented seat--it causes my legs to get hot and clammy, which becomes extremely uncomfortable when sitting in a chair for hours a day.
Second, the arms--while the adjust vertically, up and down, the don't adjust horizontally, inward and outward. This is a fit issue -- if they fit for you, then fine, but I've seen adjustable arms on $200 chairs and expect better from $1,000 chairs. The arms also tend to... Read more
